It’s not too long until NFL pre-season and regular season and you get you in the mood Madden 17 is coming soon, otherwise known as Madden NFL 17. The American Football video game looks to be the best yet so here’s the information you need on the Madden 17 release date, gameplay price, platforms and trailer.
Madden 17 release date and price UK
Just in time for the start of the NFL 2016 regular season, the Madden 17 release date is 23 August – however, Amazon has it listed as 25 August.
Madden 17 will launch on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3. Strangely, the price doesn’t differ for older or newer consoles so at Amazon it will cost you £44 to pre-order while GAME has it for £49.

Although it’s more expensive at GAME, the retailer is offering bonus content for anyone who pre-orders including “up to nine Madden NFL 17 Ranked tickets and up to seven Madden NFL 17 Ultimate Team Pro Packs.”
If you’re wondering about the Madden 17 cover vote which decides who will feature on the box, it’s too later to vote and the winner was Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots – you can see him about to perform his famous spike. Some may be surprised that it’s not Cam Newton following the Carolina Panthers’ Super Bowl 50 appearance in San Francisco.
Madden 17 gameplay
EA Sports says, unsurprisingly, that Madden 17 is “The most complete and authentic football experience we’ve ever delivered.” And a lot of this comes down to the Madden 17 gameplay where all three elements – offence, defence and special teams – have been updated. “New mechanics and authentic AI bring wow moments to the Ground game, while improved Zone Coverage balances out the passing game. Finally special teams is brought into the modern era giving you the ability to impact the game in a single play,” said EA Sports.
There’s more control compared to previous games like Madden 16 so when you’re playing as a bulky back you’ll have better moves like stiff arms and trucks, while small players will be able to spin move and juke like never before.
New ball carrier special moves look like they will be a lot of fun. In addition a new ball carrier path assist (a bit like track guides in racing games) shows where you’re playing is heading further down field to help with awareness and anticipation.
Tackle battles is another new feature of Madden 17 so you can try and break free when you’re player is tackled – always play until the whistle goes just in case.
On the defence side, new ‘Gap Play’ is part of the ‘most authentic defensive AI to date’ and will place defenders in a position to stop the run game. If you’re not so hot on formations but you think you know whether the other team is going to run or pass then you can choose from recommendations.
EA Sports says that specials teams will be more important than ever in Madden 17 thanks to changes to PAT kicks and creative trick plays. The new kick meter aims to match the difficulty in the real life game and you can even use the new ‘ice the kicker’ mechanic to pile on the pressure.
As you’d expect there is the Madden 17 Franchise Mode and it’s got several of the top requested features from fans including the addition of the practice squad, full-player editing, and the in-game ticker that keeps you updated with scores from around the league.
