Devil May Cry 5 Release Date, Platforms, Gameplay News & More
Fans of the Devil May Cry series have been aware of the existence of a new DMC game for quite some time. Why? The director of the second, third and fourth instalments of the game, Hideaki Itsuno, confirmed the news of a new project on Twitter in 2017. The highly anticipated upcoming game was expected to be announced during TGS or PGW 2017, but it failed to materialise.
Instead, Devil May Cry 5 was revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference with a great new trailer featuring Dante, Nero and friends.
Here, we discuss everything we know so far about Devil May Cry 5 including the latest release date, platform and gameplay news.
When is the Devil May Cry 5 release date?
Devil May Cry 5 is set to be released on 8 March 2019.

Devil May Cry 5 platforms and pre-orders
While rumours prior to the announcement of Devil May Cry 5 suggested that the upcoming title would feature some kind of PlayStation 4 exclusivity, it was not the case. Capcom revealed that Devil May Cry 5 is set to be released not only on PS4 but the Xbox One and PC too.
And, like most other upcoming titles, we expect that Devil May Cry 5 will offer support for the 4K-enabled Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.
If you want to pre-order Devil May Cry 5 ahead of release, you can head to GAME (£54.99) in the UK, or Amazon ($59.99) in the US.
Devil May Cry 5 gameplay news
Capcom revealed a brand new cinematic trailer for Devil May Cry 5 at E3 2018, giving us our first official glimpse at the upcoming title. Nero and Dante are back, with the latter looking fairly old and haggard in the trailer, suggesting that it’s a continuation of Devil May Cry 4.
Set in Red Grave City, Nero sports a badass sword and a mechanical arm, causing mayhem and even using the arm to propel himself around the environment. Alongside Nero is Nico, capable of crafting weaponry and upgrades while taking on the hardest demons around.
Dante will also be playable, with his usual sword Rebellion, and dual pistols Ebony and Ivory. He can also now dual-wield motorcycles, as you do, even riding one while attacking with the other. There’s also access to a shotgun called Coyote-A and a gauntlets-and-greaves pair called Balrog, with two stances: Blow Mode and Kick Mode.
That’s not all though – there’ll be a third playable character in the game too, teased at the end of the Tokyo Game Show trailer. So far known only as V, we don’t know much about how his playstyle will differ from Nero and Dante, or what role he’ll play in the plot.
It’s also rumoured that the upcoming title will offer online multiplayer for two or three players. As mentioned in the game’s pre-order listing in the PlayStation Store, Devil May Cry 5 will offer online multiplayer for two or three players, with fans speculating that it may be a co-op, horde-style mode where you take on waves of enemies. Nothing is official just yet, but we’re fairly confident that this is something the developers announce in the near future.
In terms of the rest of the gameplay, the level design has been shifted to allow more open exploration of levels, but things are still fairly linear. This is by no means an open world game, but you’ll get a little more choice about how you progress through levels. Those will lead up to boss fights that are significantly ramped up from the previous games – at the bottom of this page you can see one of those in action in our gameplay footage from Gamescom, where we take down the mammoth Goliath demon.
Essentially, expect the most complex and rewarding DMC game in the series to date.
We got the chance to play it for ourselves at Gamescom 2018, so you can go ahead and watch 20 minutes of gameplay – including the massive Goliath boss battle – to see what Capcom has in store for us:
